Met Office issues 18-hour heavy rain weather warning

We are going to be battered by rainstorms

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning ahead of heavy rain across much of the West Country. Downpours are expected from Tuesday evening and throughout Wednesday morning over Bristol, Somerset, Devon and parts of Gloucestershire and Cornwall.

The weather warning is in place from 6pm today, Tuesday, October 15, until midday tomorrow, Wednesday, October 16. The warning covers Bristol, Bridgwater, Taunton, Bath and stretches into Gloucestershire and as far north as Preston.

The Met Office warns that the rain could mean disruption on the road and rail network and flooding in some low-lying areas. There is also the possibility of power cuts and property damage.

What does a yellow weather warning for rain mean?

• There is a slight chance of power cuts and loss of other services to some homes and businesses
• There is a small chance that some communities will be temporarily cut off by flooded roads
• There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded, causing damage to some buildings
• Where flooding occurs, there is a slight chance of delays or cancellations to train and bus services
• Spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures
