The NC won 42 seats of the 51 it contested while its ally-Congress-bagged six of the 32 it fought.

Omar Abdullah also won both the constituencies he contested from-- Budgam and Ganderbal Assembly-- with a comfortable majority.

As per National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah, the alliance of the National Conference and Congress will stake claim to form the government with Omar Abdullah as the Chief Minister.

The support for the National Conference and Congress's alliance has proved that the people of Jammu and Kashmir have rejected the central government's decision to abrogate Article 370 of the Constitution, Farooq Abdullah said.

"People have given their mandate. They have proven that they don't accept the decision that was taken on August 5 (abrogation of Article 370). Omar Abdullah will be the chief minister," the National Conference chief said.
