A minor girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by her father's friend for the past two years in Odisha's Rourkela, police said on Sunday.

The incident was brought to light when the girl's family filed a formal complaint with the police, alleging that the man had been sexually abusing their daughter for the past two years.

They also alleged that the accused had threatened the girl that he would kill her if she revealed the matter to her family.

According to police, the minor girl has been sent for medical examination.

The accused, a resident of Civil Township, had been absconding after the girl filed a complaint at the police station.

Police also said that the accused has been involved in various illegal activities, and the Raghunathpalli Police is currently investigating the case.

Following the complaint, police have registered a case against the man under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. A police team has been deployed to nab the accused.

"The accused is absconding with his family as he had early information about the girl's family filing a complaint against him. Medical tests of the minor are being done," Rourkela SP Nitesh Wadhwani told India Today TV.
