Mentally unsound man arrested for vandalising Goddess Durga idol in Hyderabad

The Telangana police have arrested a mentally unsound man for allegedly vandalising the idol of Goddess Durga at a Puja pandal in Hyderabad.

A mentally unsound man has been arrested for allegedly vandalising the idol of Goddess Durga in Telangana's Hyderabad. The accused, identified as Krishnaiah Goud, is a native of Nagarkurnool district of the state.

According to Central Zone DCP Akshansh Yadav, Goud, who suffers from mental health issues, admitted to damaging the idol after a breakdown when he couldn't find food at a Puja pandal at Nampally Exhibition Grounds.

"Krishnaiah Goud admitted to coming to the exhibition grounds in search of food. Failing to find any, he experienced a breakdown and, in his unstable mental condition, proceeded to damage the mandapam and the idol of Goddess Durga," DCP Yadav stated.

Police have also registered a case against the organisers responsible for installing the idol, as it was revealed that no organisers were present at the mandapam during the incident.
