Sharpshooter wanted in Delhi gym trainer's murder arrested after shootout

Delhi Police's Special Cell teamed up with local police in Mathura and arrested a prime suspect in the murder of a gym trainer in Delhi.

A member of the Lawrence Bishnoi and Hakim Baba gangs, who was allegedly involved in the murder of a Delhi gym trainer, was arrested following a shootout with police on Thursday. The arrest followed a joint operation by Delhi Police's Special Cell and Uttar Pradesh Police in Mathura.

Yogesh, a sharpshooter, is the prime suspect in the murder of Nadir Shah, who was killed outside the gym where he worked in Greater Kailash, Delhi, on September 12. His associate, Madhur, was arrested on October 12.

A team from Delhi Police's Special Cell, acting on a tip, set up a joint operation with local police in Mathura. Around 4 a.m, they spotted Raju on a motorcycle near Baad railway station on the Agra-Mathura Highway, police said.

When Raju saw the police, he fired three shots. Officers returned fire with two rounds in self-defence. Raju was hit in the left leg and taken to the hospital, police said.

Authorities recovered a .32-caliber pistol, seven live rounds, three spent cartridges, and an unregistered motorcycle from the scene.

DELHI GYM TRAINER'S MURDER

In CCTV footage that captured the incident, Nadir Shah, 35, is seen talking to another man while standing next to a black SUV. A man in a checked shirt approaches and opens fire at Shah, while his companion flees. The attacker then escapes on a bike.

According to police sources, the shooter fired 11 bullets at Shah, of which eight hit him. The victim died in a hospital.

After the incident on September 12, Rohit Godara, an aide of Lawrence Bishnoi's close associate Goldy Brar, posted on his social media claiming responsibility for the murder.
