Woman raped and killed by neighbour in Bengal, locals thrash accused

Several villagers gathered at the accused's house in East Medinipur and assaulted him with bamboo sticks. The police rushed to the spot, and the accused was admitted to the hospital.

A woman was allegedly raped and killed in the East Medinipur district of West Bengal on Saturday. According to locals, the victim was reportedly taken from her house in Patashpur by a man who was her neighbour.

The man allegedly raped her at his house, then forced her to drink poison and left her outside. Locals rescued the woman in critical condition and rushed her to the hospital.

However, she succumbed to her injuries during treatment. A complaint was lodged against two villagers in connection with the incident, officials said.

After news of her death spread through the village on Sunday morning, several villagers went to the accused's house and assaulted him with bamboo sticks.

Upon receiving the information, police rushed to the spot, and the accused was admitted to the hospital.

Further investigation is underway, police said.
