A day after the BJP's remarkable win in the Haryana Assembly polls, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tore into the Congress, accusing the party of "misleading the public" and "spreading lies among the Dalit community".

Virtually addressing the people in Nagpur, PM Modi said that people in Haryana showed that "they will not fall prey to the hatred conspiracies of the Congress and its urban Naxal allies."

The BJP clinched a stunning hat-trick win in Haryana, overcoming anti-incumbency and dashing Congress' hopes of a comeback in the agriculture-dominated state. While the saffron party ended up with its best-ever haul of 48 seats, the Congress managed to win only 37 seats in the Haryana Assembly polls.

"Yesterday, the results of Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir elections were declared...After completing two terms, getting elected for the third term in Haryana is historic. The entire ecosystem of Congress was misleading the public...They tried to spread lies among the Dalits. The Dalits realised that Congress would snatch away reservations from them and distribute them to their vote bank," PM Modi said.

"The Dalit community in Haryana extended record support to the BJP...Congress instigated the farmers. The farmers of Haryana are happy with the farmer-friendly schemes of the BJP. Congress also tried to instigate the youth. They all trust the BJP for a bright future... The public of Haryana has shown that they will not fall prey to the hatred conspiracies of the Congress and its urban Naxal allies...," PM Modi added.

The sharp words of PM Modi came while addressing the people virtually during a ceremony organised to lay the foundation stone of various development projects of more than Rs 7,600 crore in Nagpur.

PM Modi laid the foundation stones for the enhancement of Nagpur's Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport and the New Integrated Terminal Building at the Shirdi Airport in the state via video conference.

Maharashtra is expected to go into Assembly elections in November this year with the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance aiming to secure another term.
