BJP MP Tejasvi Surya completes Ironman challenge, PM lauds commendable feat

The 33-year-old BJP leader, Tejasvi Surya, dedicated his endurance feat in Goa to India's athletes and credited the Fit India initiative as motivation for the months of training needed to complete the triathlon.

BJP leader and Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya completed the gruelling Ironman 70.3 endurance race held in Goa on Sunday. He is the first Indian public representative to complete the Ironman event.

Calling it a "commendable feat", Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised Surya's attempt.

The 33-year-old BJP MP took on the challenging triathlon challenge—comprising a 1,900-metre swim, a 90-kilometre cycle, and a 21.1-kilometre run—finishing in 8 hours, 27 minutes, and 32 seconds.

Surya dedicated this achievement to India's athletes and sportspersons, acknowledging their hard work and dedication. “The Ironman 70.3 Goa, known for attracting athletes from over 50 countries, is the ultimate test of endurance and fitness,” he said after the race.

“After months of rigorous training, I am thrilled to have completed this challenge," he added.

Surya credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Fit India initiative as a motivator. “The Fit India movement inspired me to reflect on my fitness goals and strive to become healthier,” he noted.

He also urged young Indians to prioritise fitness. “Physical fitness makes us disciplined and confident, essential qualities for success in any endeavour," he said.

Encouraging others to embrace fitness, Surya said, “This journey has pushed my boundaries. I urge everyone, especially young people, to set fitness goals and enjoy the positive changes they bring.”
