A man has been arrested in Madhya Pradesh's Satna district for allegedly raping a woman after posing as an Army jawan and befriending her on Facebook.

According to the police, in 2023, the accused, Kapilesh Sharma, posed as an Army jawan on Facebook and befriended the woman. The two then entered into a relationship.

However, when the woman discovered that the accused was not an Army jawan but worked as a cook at a private hostel, she ended the relationship. The accused then repeatedly raped the woman, blackmailing her with her private photos and videos.

Later, the woman filed a complaint against Sharma under several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including section 376 (related to rape). A probe was launched in connection with the matter, and the accused was arrested by the police on October 18 in Maharashtra's Nagpur.

Earlier, in a similar case, a 28-year-old man was arrested by the Delhi Police for allegedly raping a woman constable on the pretext of marriage after posing as an Indian Army officer.

The accused, his family members, and at least 30 others also locked up the police team that arrived to arrest him and attacked the officials, but he was eventually caught.

The woman, a constable with the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), stated in her complaint that she came into contact with the accused through a matrimonial website, where he pretended to be a serving Major in the Indian Army.
