BJP leader Nayab Singh Saini, who steered his party to a record third consecutive victory in the Haryana Assembly polls, is likely to take oath as the Chief Minister again on October 15, sources told India Today TV.

A 10-member committee has been formed by the state chief secretary to oversee the oath-taking ceremony arrangements. The committee will be headed by the Panchkula District Commissioner.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other top leaders, including Chief Ministers of BJP-ruled states, are likely to attend the oath-taking ceremony.

The BJP had indicated during the elections that Nayab Singh Saini, who replaced Manohar Lal Khattar as the Chief Minister in March, will be its choice for the top post if it wins. Nayab Singh Saini is from the Other Backward Classes (OBCs), a major vote bank in the state.

Earlier this week, Nayab Singh Saini and other newly-elected BJP MLAs of Haryana met with the senior party leadership in Delhi. Nayab Singh Saini also met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP chief and Union Ministers Amit Shah and JP Nadda.

Bucking a decade of anti-incumbency and defying exit poll predictions, the BJP scripted a turnaround in Haryana and ended up with its best-ever haul of 48 of 90 Assembly seats. The Congress, which was eyeing a comeback, finished with 37 seats.

The JJP, which allied with the BJP from 2019 till March 2024, was decimated. The AAP failed to open its account and the INLD managed to win just two seats. Three independents, including Savitri Jindal, also won and have decided to support the BJP.
