The BJP on Tuesday distanced itself from remarks made by Lok Sabha MP Kangana Ranaut seeking the reinstatement of three controversial farm laws, adding that she had not been authorised to speak on the issue on behalf of the party.

In a statement, BJP's spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia said, "On the social media platforms, BJP MP Kangana Ranaut's statement on the farm bills that the central government withdrew, is going viral. I want to make it clear that this statement is a personal statement of her. Kangana Ranaut is not authorised to make such a statement on behalf of BJP, and it doesn't depict BJP's view on the farm bills. We condemn this statement."

This is the second time within a month that the BJP has distanced itself from the comments of Mandi MP.

BJP distances itself from Kangana Ranaut's 'bring back 3 farm laws' remark

On Tuesday, September 24, Kangana Ranaut, BJP MP from Himachal Pradesh's Mandi, stoked a controversy by saying that the three controversial farm laws, which were repealed after a prolonged protest by farmer unions, should be brought back by the government.

Speaking to reporters in her constituency Mandi in Himachal Pradesh, the actor-turned-politician said, "I know this statement could be controversial but the three farm laws should be brought back. The farmers should themselves demand it."

Kangana Ranaut argued that the three laws were beneficial for the farmers but were repealed by the government due to protests by farmer groups in some states.

"Farmers are a pillar of strength in the nation's development. I want to appeal to them to demand the laws back for their own good," she said.

The Mandi MP also triggered a row when she said that the farmer protests were a build up to a "Bangladesh-like situation in India", and claimed that dead bodies were found hanging and rapes were taking place at the sites of agitation.
