Former LDF-backed independent MLA PV Anvar launched his new political party, the Democratic Movement of Kerala, on Sunday. In his policy address, Anvar proposed the creation of a 15th district in Kerala by dividing the existing districts of Malappuram and Kozhikode.

Anvar highlighted the overpopulation issue in Malappuram, noting that the district’s population has grown from 14 lakhs to 45 lakhs. He argued that this makes it difficult for government schemes to be implemented effectively. He also pointed out that Malappuram’s population now exceeds that of the districts of Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, and Idukki combined. Kozhikode is facing similar challenges, he added.

Anvar called for studies and consultations to support the division of these districts, suggesting the new district should include the southern part of Kozhikode and the northern part of Malappuram.

During his speech, Anvar praised Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin and the DMK, calling it the only party in India with a clear stance on democratic, socialist, and secular values.

He also accused senior police officers, including ADGP Law and Order MR Ajith Kumar, of having ties with RSS leaders, which led to his distancing from the CPI(M)-led LDF.

CPI(M) state secretary MV Govindan responded by accusing Anvar of acting as a tool for the opposition.
