Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinay Kumar Saxena on Wednesday visited several areas in West Delhi and slammed the concerned agencies for the gross civic negligence there.

The Delhi LG inspected West Delhi's Mundka, Nangloi, Ranikhera, Ranhola, Karala, Kanjhawala areas and came down heavily on civic agencies including the Public Works Department, the Delhi Jal Board and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) among others.

After the inspection, VK Saxena said "Lakhs of people are forced to live in pathetic conditions as a result of systemic neglect by the government over the years and related administrative callousness".

He expressed regret over the open and clogged drains, overflowing sewers, potholes filled with drain water, rotting garbage and said that 'hundreds of helpless people are venting out their anguish, helplessness and anger' over the present state of affairs.

"The failure of departments/agencies that are transferred subjects, like PWD, MCD, I&FC, DJB, and DSIIDC is inexcusable and unforgivable", LG Saxena said.

The most adversely affected by this mismanagement in Delhi are the poor daily wage labourers, street vendors, women, the elderly, and children, the Lieutenant Governor grieved.

"Even to cover short distances, buses, cars, and two-wheelers face immense difficulties, making transit and travel impossible. Due to years of neglect, the industrial areas of the region have turned into municipal waste dumping grounds and dangerous water-filled pits", he said.

After repeated requests from the area residents, civil society organisations, the local MP, and the councillor, an inspection was conducted in this regard on Wednesday with officials from the concerned departments, and immediate relief was ordered, LG VK Saxena informed.

The Lieutenant Governor further added that he would want former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Chief Minister-designate Atishi to address the deplorable conditions the people are forced to live in and request for remedial measures to be taken up by the government at the earliest.
