A 32-year-old domestic help was arrested by police in Uttar Pradesh's Ghaziabad on Wednesday for allegedly mixing urine in the flour dough to make chapatis (flatbread) for her employers. The woman, identified as Reena, was arrested following a complaint by one of her employers.

The incident came to light when the complainant recorded a video of Reena urinating in a utensil and then mixing it with the flour. The video has gone viral on X, with people demanding strict action against her.

During questioning, Reena admitted to the incident, stating that her employer used to keep a close watch on her and often shouted at her for small mistakes. Angered over this, she mixed urine with the flour several times to make rotis.

A case has been registered under relevant sections of Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) against Reena. The police have also launched a probe to check whether the accused had a criminal history.

Last month, a man was thrashed and later arrested by the Ghaziabad Police for allegedly serving juices mixed with urine to customers. The accused, Aamir Khan, owner of Khushi Juice Corner, was arrested while his minor assistant was detained by the police.

To curb such practices, the Uttar Pradesh government is planning to bring two ordinances that will penalise contaminating food with human waste and force all eateries to put up nameplates giving details of owners and staffers.

The new ordinance will penalise spitting on food with imprisonment of up to 10 years. There will also be provisions for cancellation of licences and penalties for mixing urine or waste.
