92-year-old man arrested for molesting 4-year-old girl in Gujarat's Rajkot

The incident came to light when the girl, who is a neighbour of the accused identified as Navalshankar Desai, told her mother that the man had inappropriately touched her.

A 92-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly molesting a four-year-old girl in Gujarat's Rajkot, police said on Saturday.

The incident came to light when the girl, who is a neighbour of the accused identified as Navalshankar Desai, told her mother that the man had inappropriately touched her. The mother of the child lodged a formal complaint with the local police.

"On Thursday, I was sitting outside my house when my four-year-old daughter, who was playing near the neighbour's house, came and told me that the old man touched her private parts. Due to which, she got scared and came to me", the woman alleged in her complaint.

The girl's mother then went through the CCTV footage, capturing the whole incident. After that, she approached the police.

Following the woman's complaint, the police arrested Desai on the same day and produced him in court.

"We have arrested the accused on the basis of CCTV footage and presented him in court. We will file a chargesheet in three to four days so that he can be punished soon. We have also collected all circumstantial evidence", Zone 2 DCP Jagdish Bangarvane said.

On Friday, the police also recorded the statement of the girl under Section 164 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) in front of the magistrate.

Accused Navalshankar Desai lives with his grandson and a 60-year-old daughter in the Railnagar area of Rajkot.
