A foreign female student was allegedly molested at the premises of a private university in Ahmedabad by a professor, police sources said on Monday. The police arrested the accused following a complaint by the student.

According to the complaint, the student belongs to Papua New Guinea and was doing her clinical research at the university. The accused, identified as 52-year-old Mrudang Dave, misbehaved and molested her on September 11 and threatened to kill her if she told anyone about the incident.

Initially, the student was scared but filed a complaint after talking to her family members.

Upon receiving the complaint, the Ahmedabad Police arrested the accused under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

According to the police, the accused was posted as the Director of the Post-Graduate Centre of the university and was involved with foreign students as part of his job.

The accused left his job at the university on September 14, three days after the incident, the police said.

Earlier in February this year, a 17-year-old international yoga student in Noida also filed a complaint of sexual assault by four men.
