Kamala Harris Campaigns for the Swiftie Vote With ‘Fearless’ Taylor Swift Snapchat Filter

· Rolling Stone

Kamala Harris is meeting voters where they are — whether that be on Snapchat or in Miami, where Taylor Swift is performing three sold-out shows at Hard Rock Stadium this weekend. As the election approaches, the Democratic National Committee is working to lock in support from large voting bodies in swing states, even if those people aren’t physically in the state they will be voting from.

Harris campaign billboards have been posted around the Miami area ahead of Swift’s performances. Across the three shows, Swift will perform for nearly 200,000 people, many of whom are likely coming from out of state to be there. If they’re willing to make the commitment to travel, so is the DNC. There’s even a boat billboard stationed in the vicinity of the stadium. It reads “A New Way Forward … Ready For It?” in reference to a single from Swift’s 2017 album Reputation.

And for those Swifties who reside in swing states — and likely attended an earlier show on the Eras tour — Harris is touching base through social media. Using the app’s locational services, the DNC has released Snapchat filters available in those states that reference Swift’s Fearless album. The filter sets a border of stars around the main image, along with purple heart-shaped glasses. Each is fitted with an interchangeable graphic that reads “Fearless for…” followed by either “reproductive rights,” “democracy,” “climate action,” or “student loan debt relief.”

The DNC has been working alongside the Swifties for Harris coalition, an online community of thousands helping to put Harris in the White House as president this time. Swift herself endorsed the Democratic candidate and sitting VP in September following the first presidential debate between Harris and Republican candidate Donald Trump. “We never doubted Taylor would endorse at the right time because we know that her values align with Harris and our community,” the coalition shared at the time. “We never doubted Taylor would endorse at the right time because we know that her values align with Harris and our community.”

In August, Irene Kim — co-founder and senior communications director of Swifties for Kamala — told Rolling Stone: “We’re incorporating existing parts of our fandom culture to share resources and create volunteer initiatives. You come for the Swiftiness, but you’re going to stay for the politics. We want it to be fun, because it’s important to show that politics and voting don’t have to be scary or boring.”
