Delhi News Live Updates (September 20): The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has requested government accommodation for outgoing Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, highlighting his role as the convener of a national party. At a press conference, AAP Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha announced that the party will be writing to the relevant ministry on this issue. “We hope to avoid a legal battle over this matter. Kejriwal chose to resign based on his principles and will be vacating his official residence,” he stated. “He does not own property or a personal home. As the convener of a national party, he is entitled to government accommodation, and we urge the Centre to provide it.”

Meanwhile, one position in the seven-member Delhi Cabinet is expected to remain vacant for the time being, an AAP functionary has told The Indian Express. Alongside CM-designate Atishi, the newly appointed ministers—Saurabh Bharadwaj, Gopal Rai, Imran Hussain, Kailash Gahlot, and AAP’s new Sultanpur Majra MLA Mukesh Ahlawat—will take their oaths on Saturday. However, the identity of the seventh minister remains unclear. A senior government official mentioned that the Lieutenant Governor’s Secretariat has only received six names for the oath-taking ceremony scheduled for September 21. The AAP official confirmed that one cabinet position will be left vacant but did not provide further details on the reasoning behind it.

Temperatures are expected to range between a maximum of 34°C and a minimum of 23°C on Friday. The humidity level was recorded as 84 per cent. Delhi court acquits ex-Cong MLA Asif Mohd Khan in 2010 rioting case, raps investigating officer for ‘deep slumber’

A Delhi court Wednesday acquitted former Congress Okhla MLA Asif Mohd Khan in a 2010 case of stone pelting and destroying police property.

“…witness Faizal Hashmi on which the prosecution is heavily relying to prove identity and presence of accused persons at the spot cannot be relied upon, in light of the fact that the said prosecution witness did not support the case of the prosecution at all during his examination in the court,” said Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) Tanya Bamniyal, noting that the main witness in the case had turned hostile.

The court also noted that none of the police witnesses deposed that Faizal Hashmi was present at the police station on the alleged date of the incident. “Thus, it is not possible for a witness who is not proved to be present at the place of incident and has not proved to have witnessed the alleged incident to tell the names of the accused persons who were allegedly present during the alleged commission of the offence,” the court added.

At Abhay K’s ‘Shunyata’ exhibition: Where art is visual poetry

It was while writing his book Nalanda (Vintage Imprint, 2024) that diplomat and poet Abhay K began taking interest in the concept of “shunyata”, the Buddhist concept of “emptiness.” The philosophy soon began to reflect in the poet-author’s art and emerged as the central theme of his recent exhibition “Shunyata” at Alliance Francaise in Delhi.

Showing us works such as “Shunyata – tevisati” and “Shunyata – duvadasa,” respectively brown and gold circles with faces painted inside them, he told us about the philosophy behind them. Abhay stated, “The cause of all suffering is desire. Desire is created by form, and the mental state or the mind…these are empty. It basically tells us that because things are impermanent, because things are not real, they don’t have substance, therefore we should not take them seriously.” Describing his paintings as “continuous transformations,” he added, “Shunyata is represented by the circle, like shunya, the digit, and the forms represent the faces, which are changing from painting to painting.” When asked why he thinks this concept speaks to society, the present deputy director general at the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, said, “If we can truly understand the nature of reality, which is transient, which is not permanent, then we would suffer less.”Continue reading...
