House Of Reps Ban Journalists From Covering Hearing On Bobrisky, EFCC Investigation

The House of Representatives has banned journalists from covering its investigative hearing into the ₦15 million corruption allegations involving crossdresser Idris Okuneye, aka Bobrisky, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Nigerian Correctional Services (NCS).

The decision was communicated to the House press corps by the Joint Committees on Financial Crimes and Reformatory Services of the House of Representatives.

The lawmakers said its investigation into the corruption claims involving the EFCC and NCS in the Bobrisky case is prohibited.

This decision follows an earlier invitation extended to the press to report on the proceedings.

Recall the House of Representatives last Thursday, adopted a motion to investigate the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on the allegation of receiving ₦15 million from crossdresser, Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky.

Naija News reported that a social media influencer, Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, alleged that Bobrisky, following his conviction by the court for abusing the naira, allegedly served his jail term in a private residency and not the correctional center.

Though Bobrisky has denied the allegation, the matter has gained national attention.

As part of the actions that have taken place, the federal government suspended the officers in charge of the maximum and minimum custodial centres in Kirikiri, Lagos State, on Thursday.

Secretary of the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board, CDCFIB, Ja’afaru Ahmed, disclosed this in a statement released in Abuja.

Ahmed in the statement, said the suspension of the officers is to allow for further investigation on the various allegations, assuring that the outcome would be made public when concluded.
