Girl who 'stabbed' teachers and a pupil wanted to be a 'celebrity'

A 13-year-old schoolgirl who stabbed two teachers and a classmate told police: 'That's one way to be a celebrity', a court heard.

The girl is accused of smuggling her father's fishing knife into school with the intention of killing the assistant head teacher.

She was heard saying: 'I'm going to f***ing kill you,' before stabbing Fiona Elias, 48, and special needs teacher Liz Hopkin, 53, who tried to intervene.

Still armed with the multi-tool fishing knife, the girl ran to a different part of the school where she stabbed a female classmate.

Swansea Crown Court heard the girl asked police if they knew the schoolgirl victim and added: 'I stabbed her, Oopsies'.

Prosecutor William Hughes KC said: 'In the rear of a police car she made a number of significant comments. 

'Among them she said: 'I suppose things like this don't happen very often. Are they dead?

'I'm pretty sure this is going to be on the news so more eyes will be looking at me. That's one way to be a celebrity.'

The girl was searched every morning after previously taking a knife into school hidden under hundreds of felt-tipped pens, the jury was told.

Her father and the school checked her bag for knives every day but on the morning of April 24 she got the fishing knife into Amman Valley School in Ammanford, Carmarthenshire.

The jury was shown harrowing CCTV of the girl 'with sinister eyes' stabbing the two teachers in a walkway outside the school's lower hall.

Mr Hughes said: 'At about 11.15 am, during mid morning break, there was a serious episode of violence at the school.

'Mrs Elias said she was not happy with the way the girl was looking at her and asked what she had in her pocket.

'The girl replied: 'Do you want to see?' and pulled out the knife, a fishing multi-tool owned by her father.

She was heard saying: 'I'm going to kill you, I'm going to f***ing kill you.'

Mrs Elias received serious stab injuries to her arms in the attack witnessed by staff and other pupils.

Mr Hughes said: 'Those stab wounds were inflicted deliberately with an intent to kill Mrs Elias.

'She was repeatedly saying: 'I'm going to f***ing kill you, as she attacked Mrs Elias.

'Mrs Hopkin intervened and did her utmost to take hold of her and stop her.

'She was also stabbed a number of times and received very serious injuries including wounds to her neck, back, legs and arms.'

Mrs Hopkin was taken to the University Hospital of Wales by air ambulance where she received treatment for her injuries. All three victims were discharged within 48 hours of the attack.

The girl, who can't be named because of her age, was disarmed by two brave male teachers who kept her in a classroom until police arrived.

She denies three charges of attempted murder. She has admitted three charges of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and possessing a bladed article.

The girl appeared in court dressed in a white blouse and black waistcoat, with glasses on top of her head and carrying a blue notepad.

Because of her age she was allowed to sit next to her legal team instead of facing the court from the dock.

The trial heard police found the girl's bedroom and seized a notepad with writing referring to the 14-year-old girl victim.

Mr Hughes told the jury: 'The writing includes 'burning a person', 'XXXXXX will burn,' 'They could die' and 'cut their mouths and eyes'.

'Those documents taken together with the girl's words and actions during the attacks are demonstrative of her intent to kill.'

The trial will hear from other children at the 1,500 that the girl had talked about her dislike for Mrs Elias and her wish to stab someone.
