This is the shocking moment a car hurtled at speed down a private driveway and rammed into a family home, as a young child inside looked on in terror.

CCTV has captured the exact moment the driver of a grey Audi A3 vehicle carefully approached the house in an otherwise quiet residential road in Blackburn, Lancashire.

The car then swung into the driveway as part of a U-turn manouevre.

But rather than reversing back out and turning the car, the vehicle instead started to move at speed towards the white house.

A red toy car was smashed to smithereens on impact with the Audi, which can be seen crashing into the side of the building.

The house was said to be left with 'significant structural damage' after the impact caused the outer wall to 'partially collapse'.

One eyewitness said they heard a 'loud bang' as the shocking incident unfolded last Friday at around 6.30pm.

Children's toys were left on the driveway indicating that it was a place where youngsters often played.

Nearby residents who heard about the collision said the dead-end road was regularly used as a turning spot for visitors to a nearby religious school.

They said parents picking up their children from the academy had particularly made use of the private driveways for U-turns.

They said: 'Nobody has been recruited to do anything. There are no wardens on duty. They have no control of this road whatsoever.

'Despite there being multiple entrances, people choose to use this road because of easy access.'

Lancashire Police has been contacted for comment.
