Hilarious moment police find serial burglar hiding away under a bed

by · Mail Online

This is the hilarious moment a clueless criminal is caught trying to evade police by hiding underneath a bed.

Police tracked down the 43-year-old suspected burglar to a property in Coalpit Heath in South Gloucestershire on October 1.

Despite believing he could dodge the cops by trying to camouflage himself underneath the bed frame, cops foiled the man's game of hide and seek in mere seconds.

As the alleged burglar, who is believed to have stolen power tools, bicycles, and garden machinery in a seven day period, emerged from his hiding place, he appeared to be unaware as to why he was being arrested.

Sluggishly moving from underneath the bed he asked officers to lift the bed because he couldn't 'get out from underneath'.

The hapless man was seemingly unaware that he was both wanted and what he was going to be arrested for

Slowly propping himself up from the floor, he asked an officer 'What's up?' before asking police if he could have another drag of his vape before being taken away.

After one officer remarked his hiding spot, the hapless burglar said: 'I know but I ain't gonna lie... Am I wanted?'

The officers informed him he was being taken into custody on eight counts of suspicion of burglary, he exclaimed: 'Eight?'

The man, who was connected to eight burglaries in Winterbourne, Hambrook and Yate, has since been released on bail pending further investigation.

The arrest was part of a seven-day shoplifting and burglary crackdown by Avon and Somerset police officers which began on 25 September.

The operation was a joint effort from South Gloucestershire's Neighbourhood Policing team and other support units as well as road officers to take the community's biggest issues head on.

The extra resources allowed authorities to gather information and arrest criminals running rampant in local communities.

Officers carried out both plain-clothed and uniformed patrols at locations including Kings Chase Shopping Centre, Emersons Green Retail Park, Downend Hight Street, The Mall and Cribbs Causeway Retail Park in a bid to tackle shoplifting.

As well as acting as a visible deterrent, these patrols resulted in three arrests for theft.

A teenager caught shoplifting was also issued with a Community Resolution Order, along with a referral to the Youth Alcohol and Drug Diversion Scheme after cannabis was found in his possession.

Neighbourhood Inspector Dudley Bond said: 'These days of targeted action have been an opportunity for us to use additional resources from across Avon and Somerset to achieve some great results for South Gloucestershire.

'We wanted to prioritise the areas of highest concern affecting our communities, including business crime and burglary, motorcycle theft and exploitation.

'If you have information related to any of these issues, we urge you to get in touch.

'In the meantime, our officers will continue to work hard every day to ensure South Gloucestershire remains a safe place for everyone.'
