Terror attack at Turkish defence company leaves 'dead and wounded'

A terror attack has left an unknown number of people dead and injured in Turkey, according to officials.

The attack was carried out against the Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) according to interior minister Ali Yerlikaya.

Pictures from the scene show a large plume of smoke rising and substantial damage done to structures outside the building.

Firefighters and medical teams were dispatched to the area after explosions and gunshots were reportedly heard at the facility near the capital Ankara.

Staff at the company, a defense industry manufacturer, were evacuated and told to seek shelter.

Mansur Yavas, mayor of Ankara said, 'I am deeply saddened by the conflict and terrorist attack that occurred at the TAI facility in Ankara. 

'I wish God's mercy upon our martyrs and a speedy recovery to our wounded. We condemn terrorism.'
