Kamala Harris' dictator claim damages Trump's chances
by Nick Allen For Dailymail.com · Mail OnlineKamala Harris' closing argument that Donald Trump wants to be a dictator has resonated with independent voters, according to a DailyMail.com poll.
It was the top reason given by independents when asked what was the most persuasive reason not to vote for the former president.
The revelation came in our final national poll carried out by JL Partners.
It found that 19 percent of independents cited the dictator claim.
In the poll 12 percent of independents said Trump being a convicted felon was the most convincing reason.
Ten percent said they would be most persuaded by the argument that Trump would represent a return to division.
Another 10 percent said Harris would find most success making the case that Trump would roll back women's rights.
Overall, the poll revealed Trump has overtaken Harris.
He holds a three-point lead over the vice president, 49 percent to 46 percent.
The poll suggested Trump is currently on course to become the first Republican candidate since George W. Bush in 2004 to win the popular vote.
The vice president held a one-point lead when the poll was last conducted in September.
Among all voters, the dictator argument was also the most persuasive.
The poll found that 16 percent of the 1,000 voters surveyed believed it to be the most compelling reason not to vote for Trump.
It showed 11 percent of all voters cited Trump's felony conviction, and 8 percent rolling back women's rights.
Harris has focused her closing argument on Trump being a threat to democracy.
The strategy has been questioned by some Democrats who had urged her to spend more time elaborating on her own policies.
The latest poll was taken between October 26 and 29 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 points.
Harris had a two-month honeymoon after taking over from Joe Biden as the Democratic standard bearer.
Amid a renewed wave of Democrat enthusiasm she went up in the polls.
However, recently, the race has tightened to become one of the closest in history.
