In a significant move aimed at bolstering healthcare infrastructure in the Kolhan region, Chief Minister Hemant Soren inaugurated the new Outpatient Department (OPD) building at MGM Medical College Hospital. This modern facility, constructed on Mango-Dimna Road, promises to be a boon for the people of Jamshedpur and nearby areas, offering advanced medical services under one roof.

During the inauguration, CM Hemant Soren emphasized the importance of the new hospital wing for the region. He stated, “This hospital will serve as a milestone for the people of Kolhan. It is a crucial step in our government’s commitment to providing state-of-the-art healthcare facilities to the public.” The inauguration was attended by a host of dignitaries, including Health Minister Banna Gupta, Minister Ramdas Soren, MLA Mangal Kalindi, Ichagarh MLA Sabita Mahato, and several senior officials from the district administration.

The newly constructed OPD is part of a broader effort by the Jharkhand government to strengthen healthcare in rural and semi-urban areas. The Chief Minister expressed his optimism about the hospital’s future, noting that while the OPD services have started, the hospital will gradually become fully functional, offering comprehensive healthcare services.

Built at a cost of ₹376 crores, the new MGM Medical College Hospital spans 30 acres and includes a seven-storey building with 751 beds, making it one of the largest medical facilities in the region. The hospital is equipped with modern amenities, including a 100-bed ICU ward, an additional 100-bed Cathlab (cardiac catheterization lab), and three separate blocks designed for various specialized services.

According to hospital authorities, the facility is built on the model of a super-specialty hospital, incorporating the latest in medical technology and infrastructure. The inauguration of the OPD services marks the beginning of a new era in healthcare for the people of Kolhan, who have long struggled with inadequate medical facilities. Once fully operational, the hospital is expected to cater to patients with a wide range of medical needs, from routine check-ups to advanced surgeries and treatments.

One of the most anticipated outcomes of the new hospital is the increased access to quality healthcare for residents of Jamshedpur and surrounding districts. Prior to the opening of this facility, patients often had to travel long distances to receive specialized medical care, either to Ranchi or neighboring states. The new MGM hospital aims to change that by offering advanced medical services locally, reducing the burden on patients and their families.

“The opening of this facility is a major leap forward for healthcare in this region,” said Health Minister Banna Gupta, adding that the hospital's services will gradually expand under the supervision of the Medical Council of India (MCI). The state government has planned additional investments to ensure the availability of specialist doctors, support staff, and cutting-edge medical equipment in the near future.

 Infrastructure and Facilities

The hospital's architectural design has been tailored to enhance patient comfort and medical efficiency. With 100 beds reserved for the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and another 100 for cardiac care, the facility is well-equipped to handle critical and emergency cases. Furthermore, the hospital houses separate blocks for various specialties such as pediatrics, orthopedics, and gynecology, aiming to cover all aspects of healthcare needs.

Chief Minister Soren also conducted a thorough inspection of the hospital premises before addressing the gathered officials and dignitaries. He praised the well-planned layout and advanced facilities, expressing confidence that the hospital will provide world-class care to the people of Jharkhand.

 CM's Arrival and Security Measures

Chief Minister Hemant Soren arrived in Jamshedpur via helicopter, landing at Baba Tilka Manjhi Ground in Baliguma before making his way to the hospital by road. The area around the hospital had been placed under tight security, with a large contingent of police personnel deployed to ensure a smooth and secure event. Roadblocks and crowd control measures were put in place at various points along the route to facilitate the Chief Minister’s movement.

A Step Forward for Jamshedpur's Medical Infrastructure

For the residents of Kolhan, this development is a major relief. “We have been waiting for a facility like this for years,” said one local resident who attended the inauguration. “Now we can get treatment for a wide range of medical issues without having to travel far.”
