'Do not eat' alert as Marks & Spencer soup pulled from shelves

Customers have been warned that the soup could contain metal

Marks & Spencer customers are being warned not to eat one of its soups over fears it could be unsafe. The retailer is recalling one of its products after it emerged that it may contain small pieces of metal.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has now issued an urgent alert, warning people not to eat the soup. Packs of 600g of M&S Smooth Butternut Squash Soup, with a use by date of October 6, 2024, are affected.

Customers are being urged to return the product to a store for a refund. It said: "Marks & Spencer is recalling M&S Smooth Butternut Squash Soup because it may contain small pieces of metal which makes it unsafe to eat.

"If you have bought any of the above product do not eat it. Instead, return it to your nearest store for a full refund. For more information contact Marks & Spencer on 03330148555."

Marks & Spencer said: "Customer safety is of paramount importance to Marks & Spencer and we take all issues regarding the production of our foods extremely seriously. Marks & Spencer is recalling its Smooth Butternut Squash Soup for the potential presence of small traces of metal in a small number of packets.

"Please do not consume this product. Any customers in possession of this product can return it to their nearest store, where a full refund will be given."
