Unimas honours four graduates for outstanding achievements
by Galileo Petingi · Borneo Post OnlineKOTA SAMARAHAN (Nov 4): Four Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) graduates celebrated the institution’s highest honours at the 28th convocation today.
Dayang Nurina Nazihah Awang Abdul Rahim from the Faculty of Cognitive Sciences and Human Development was awarded the prestigious ‘Anugerah Pelajaran DiRaja’ (Pingat Jaya Cemerlang).
She graduated from the Bachelor of Counselling (Honours) with a CGPA of 3.84.
Another recipient of the Anugerah Pelajaran DiRaja was Annie Lau Siew Ming from the Faculty of Economics and Business, graduating with a Bachelor of Accounting (Honours) and an impressive CGPA of 3.92.
Receiving the Chancellor’s Award was Nur Ardini Noh from the Faculty of Resource Science and Technology, who completed her degree in Aquatic Resource Science and Management.
The Pro Chancellor’s Award went to Cathryn Anila, a graduate in Social Sciences (Anthropology and Sociology with Honours) from the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, with a CGPA of 3.74.
When met after the graduation ceremony, Lau, who hails from Sungai Salim in Sibu, said that a lifelong dream of owning a spacious home to share with her mother fuelled her determination.
Raised by a single mother, Lau is the youngest of four siblings. She is also an alumnus of SMK St Elizabeth in Sibu.
“I don’t plan to pursue further academic studies, except to take the professional exams with the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) to deepen my expertise in accounting,” she said.
When asked how she dealt with the stress of pursuing her academic goals, she replied with a smile: “I love spicy food – it always gives me comfort.”
