Seven signs of deadly killer condition that show up on your face laid bare
Dr Berg said "looking at a person's face can give you so many clues about what's going on inside" with these seven signs being red flags.
by Beth Tanner · The MirrorA doctor has taken to YouTube to talk about the seven noticeable signs that you have blood sugar issues - and you can see them all on your face. Dr Eric Berg DC explains that your face is a great tool for understanding what’s happening with your internal health.
In a new YouTube video, the healthy ketosis and intermittent fasting expert shared the most common signs to watch out for which indicate a problem with blood sugar. Dr Berg, who is the author of the best selling book The Healthy Keto Plan, explained: "Looking at a person's face can give you so many clues about what's going on inside.”
He also explains that high blood sugar - which is also known as hyperglycemia - is dangerous because it can lead to serious health issues if left untreated. It can cause damage to your vision, it can lead to heart disease, and it can damage both the nerves and kidneys.
High blood sugar can also cause atherosclerosis, which occurs when there is a buildup of fatty material within the blood vessels, narrowing them and increasing blood pressure. In addition, high blood sugar levels can also cause diabetic ketoacidosis.
What are the signs of high blood sugar?
1. Facial shape
Dr Berg says if someone has a round and puffy face, they may have too much insulin and consume too many carbs. Reflecting on his past weight struggles, he added: "I was also storing a lot of water because, with every gram of glucose stored as glycogen, three grams of water are stored."
2. Eyes
Bloodshot eyes can indicate a liver problem, he says. "This could also be due to a lack of sleep or a deficiency of vitamins B2 and B3. But, usually, it's a liver problem."
3. The area around the eyes
Puffiness under the eyes is a good indication that the kidneys are backed up because of too much fluid retention.
4. Chin shape
Fat under the chin is due to a spill-off of accumulated fat. "This doesn't just affect how you look, it can cause certain issues like sleep apnea," he warned.
5. Skin texture
Oily skin can mean the person has a zinc deficiency. It could also mean they have high androgens due to high insulin.
6. Skin that's dry or flaky
Dr Berg warns this could be due to a liver issue and/or too much omega-6 fatty acids. Cod liver oil contains omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin A, and vitamin D. Because of this, cod liver oil may help with dry, flaky skin and oily skin.
7. Acne
The expert said: "Acne can come from high androgens, which is really too much insulin. Zinc and a change in diet (to Healthy keto) may be beneficial." Other early symptoms of high blood sugar include feeling more thirsty, needing to urinate more, getting headaches, and noticing that your vision is blurry.
