A 63-year-old patient died after allegedly falling from the terrace of a private hospital in Delhi's Dwarka on Friday.

According to the police on Saturday, the deceased has been identified as Jai Singh Rawat, who was a patient of Mohan Garden, and had retired around three years ago. The victim, a retired Delhi High Court employee, was being treated for anxiety and stress at the hospital in Mohan Garden area.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Ankit Singh said, “As per statements, he had been ill since long and was admitted in this hospital multiple times even before. Recently, he was admitted on September 28 complaining difficulty in breathing, fever, etc. and for two to three days, remained in ICU before being shifted to a room, where he was recuperating. His wife as well was there taking care of him in hospital.” The incident, suspected to be a case of suicide, occurred around 8 pm on Friday when the man climbed onto the hospital's terrace on the fourth floor and jumped off. “At around 8:27 pm, he went to terrace on 4th floor and reportedly jumped from it and died,” the DCP added.

He was taken to the emergency room, where he was declared dead, the officer said, adding that no suicide note was recovered.Further Singh stated that the CCTV footage is being reviewed and inquest proceedings are on. “No foul play has been alleged by his family so far,” he said.

While there were reports of non-payment of bills as the reason of the suicide, the police has clarified that no such angle has been found. “As per the non-payment of bills is concerned, it’s not correct, as the patient being a government servant was covered under Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) and was being given cashless treatment,” Singh claimed.
