Seattle weather forecast: Scattered showers, cool temps on Halloween

Mother Nature has a trick and a treat up her meteorological sleeve this Halloween.

The trick: Leaky clouds will drip scattered showers over the Seattle area Thursday evening, during prime candy-collecting hours.

“But it’s not going to be a washout, so that’s the good news,” said Dustin Guy, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Seattle.

The bulk of precipitation will pass over the southwest corner of the state, Guy added, “but I can’t guarantee an entirely dry forecast for the evening in Seattle.”

To be on the safe side, prepare to dodge droplets.

Temperatures will be appropriately chilly on Halloween, too. It wouldn’t be a bad idea to add an extra layer under costumes as the mercury will sink into the 40s by nightfall.

The system will stick around the region through Friday, which looks “a little wetter,” Guy said, but the heaviest rain will remain south of Seattle.

Snoqualmie Pass will mainly see rain. But in the higher elevations, that rain will turn to snow.

There’s a winter weather advisory in place for the Cascades in Lewis and Pierce counties above 4,000 feet and the Cascades in Whatcom and Skagit counties above 5,000 feet through Friday. The Paradise area of Mount Rainier is expected to get up to 25 inches of snow, according to the weather service.

Daytime highs through Friday will hover below normal in most areas, in the low to mid-50s.
