Millions of Brits are set to be soaked by a huge rainstorm in just days - and some areas could see 10mm of rain fall every hour.

Forecasters at the Met Office are keeping a close eye on the second half of next week when more unsettled weather is expected to hit the country as the ex-hurricane approaches, possibly making landfall here.

And new maps from WXCharts show Britain is set to be soaked by a monster rainstorm that could see some parts endure a deluge of rain on Wednesday, October 9. The terrifying map shows large parts of southern, eastern and western England, as well as Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, all bearing the brunt of the wet weather.

Areas such as Plymouth, Southampton, Cardiff and Birmingham could see up to 10mm fall every hour, which could lead to flooding of homes and businesses, as well as delays to road and rail transport. London could see 0.6mm of rain while Birmingham, Edinburgh and Newcastle could experience between 2mm and 3mm of rain. Thursday is likely to be rainy as well, early indications suggest. The worst of this weather will be across Southwest of England, notably Devon and Dorset, where it'll also be foggy.

Writing on its website around the forecast for Monday October 7 to Wednesday October 14, the Met Office said: "An Atlantic low pressure system will drift eastwards across the UK through the first part of next week. This will bring widely unsettled conditions, with showers or longer spells of rain, heavy and persistent at times, especially over hills. Strong winds are possible too, with exposed and windward coastal areas prone to the strongest winds.

"The theme of low pressure will continue to dominate the weather for the rest of the week, with showers or longer spells of rain. There is a possibility that a deeper low pressure system, ex-Hurricane Kirk, will move close to the UK around mid-week, bringing further spells of wet and windy weather."

Windy, cloudy with patchy rain in the west. Dry with light winds and clear skies elsewhere, bringing a risk of patchy mist, fog and frost by dawn.

Saturday:

Another dry day with sunny spells for many. Cloud and patchy rain remains over Northern Ireland and western Scotland, turning heavier as it reaches western England and Wales by evening.

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:

Rather humid on Sunday as a band of rain, at times heavy, spreads eastwards through the day, before turning to a mixture of sunshine and showers for Monday and Tuesday.
