Snow maps turn UK blue as cold weather brings temperatures below 0C in Arctic freeze
Temperatures are set to dive below freezing in parts of the UK soon, according to new weather maps, with snow also forecast to fall in a number of towns and cities
by Benedict Tetzlaff-Deas, Alycia McNamara · The MirrorNew weather forecast maps have turned a chilly shade of blue as an Arctic blast is set to send temperatures plummeting below freezing.
Britain has seen a mild start to November, with temperatures reaching an above-average 16C at the weekend - but things could start to feel considerably colder very soon. Maps from WXCharts show temperatures falling to 0C across parts of Scotland on Sunday 17 November, and hovering around the low single figures in much of the rest of the UK. Snow is also forecast across central and northern parts of Scotland, including Glencoe and Glasgow, and in Anglesey and Conwy in Wales.
This is also likely to be accompanied by widespread wind chill as the colder weather typical of mid-November begins to bite. Rain will also be sweeping in across parts of the UK on November 17, with the heaviest falling in southern Wales, reports the Express.
The Met Office's forecasts are meanwhile outlining a "settled" start to November, before a more changeable pattern emerges towards the middle of the month. The long-range forecast for Monday 18 November to Monday 2 December reads: "After a settled start to November, beyond mid-month there will probably be a change towards more unsettled conditions for a time. This means an increased chance of periods of wet and windy weather for parts of the UK, perhaps more so in central and southern areas. However, there is low confidence whether unsettled, wetter weather or drier and more settled conditions will dominate by the end of November. Temperatures will probably be close to or above average overall, although some colder interludes are possible, especially in the north."
In the meantime, cloudy but mild weather will remain for most of this week, with maximum temperatures remaining around the 14-15C mark on Monday. Some mist and dry fog is also likely around this morning's rush hour, though only light drizzle is expected in a few areas of the UK, with dry conditions forecast in most places.
