The 'Cornish Caribbean' loved by Kate and William with incredible scenery and mild weather
by Laura Mckenna · DevonLiveDespite their extensive Royal duties that take them all over the world, the Prince and Princess of Wales also find time for private family retreats. One such location is the tranquil Tresco Island in Cornwall.
Often referred to as 'Mustique without the mosquitoes', this second-largest of the Scilly Isles boasts crystal clear waters, white sandy beaches and stunning villas. With its warm summers and mild winters, its beauty has been compared to being somewhere you would find in the Caribbean.
With over 200 islands and rocks located 28 miles from Cornwall, Tresco forms part of an impressive property portfolio inherited by the Prince of Wales from his father when he became King Charles. Although currently leased to private owners, the Duchy still owns property on the island, including the pretty seaside holiday home, Dolphin House.

Tresco's car-free status only adds to its peaceful allure. In 2020, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge paid their most recent visit to the island with their three children, George, Charlotte and Louis.
It's believed they stayed at the seaside holiday home, enjoying some private family time on the island, reports Cornwall Live.
A tranquil island with a population of just 150, Tresco offers an unparalleled level of privacy, making it the perfect getaway for those in search of peace and solitude. Despite the peaceful surroundings, there's no shortage of activities to keep visitors entertained even during the winter months.
From cycling along picturesque trails, as favoured by the royals, to relaxing yoga and meditation sessions at the island's own spa, there's something for everyone. The Restorative Retreat combines yoga with mindful meditation against the backdrop of Tresco's serene beauty, offering guests a chance to unwind and rejuvenate.
For the more adventurous, snorkelling and swimming with seals in the island's crystal-clear waters are on offer. Nature enthusiasts can explore the famous Tresco Abbey Gardens, home to over 20,000 plant species from more than 80 countries, even in winter.
Retail therapy is also available at local shops selling unique island-inspired jewellery, paintings, and homeware. History enthusiasts will be intrigued by King Charles's Castle, a Royalist stronghold dating back to 1550, and nearby Cromwell's Castle, another fascinating historical landmark built in the 1650s.
Tresco Island, a secluded gem with a rich Royal history, offers a serene getaway for those seeking tranquillity. Prince William first visited the island as a young boy alongside his mother, Princess Diana, who was captivated by its untouched beauty and peaceful beaches.
For those in search of a blend of natural splendour, family-friendly appeal, and a connection to Britain's Royal lineage, Tresco Island delivers on all fronts.
