Back to her roots for Queen Silvia as she visits Brazil
by Jessica Storoschuk · Royal CentralQueen Silvia of Sweden has been able to return to her home country of Brazil for a well-deserved vacation. The Royal House has shared images from Queen Silvia and King Carl Gustaf’s visit to Sao Paulo this week.
Although she was on vacation, Queen Silvia made sure to include time for the World Childhood Foundation. The Swedish Queen helped to found the organisation in 1999 to help protect children from abuse and exploitative situations.
The King supported his wife throughout the engagement where she signed a letter of intent to open the first “Children’s House” in Brazil. These are specially staffed homes where children who have experienced sexual abuse are given both support and protection.

The royal couple also visited a pre-school together. King Carl Gustaf also attended a local scouting event as the honorary chairman of the World Scout Foundation.
Queen Silvia was born in Germany in 1943 to a German father and a Brazilian mother. The family moved to Sao Paulo in 1946 and she spent most of her childhood there. She then left to attend grammar school in Germany.
While Queen Silvia and King Carl Gustaf have been in Brazil on vacation, their youngest child, Princess Madeleine, has been serving as Regent.
