Queen Elizabeth II has a right royal cameo in the next Paddington film
by Jess Ilse · Royal CentralAnother chance to say ‘thank you, ma’am’? It’s been revealed that Queen Elizabeth II will have a small cameo appearance in the next Paddington film.
In the upcoming Paddington in Peru, a photo of the late queen and Paddington having tea at Buckingham Palace during the Platinum Jubilee celebrations in June 2022, will appear in briefly in the background of a scene.
The Royal Family, led by King Charles, is said to have approved his late mother’s inclusion in the film, with producer Rosie Alison telling the Hollywood trade newspaper Variety that the royals “were actually very happy for it to happen. But we don’t like to make a big deal of it, because Paddington’s obviously a very modest fellow.”
Queen Elizabeth II became very closely entwined in the mythos of Paddington Bear during the Platinum Party at the Palace celebrations in June 2022. The Queen appeared in a pre-recording video sharing afternoon tea with the iconic bear, revealing to him that she also keeps a marmalade sandwich in her purse “for later” and tapping out the tune for Queen’s ‘We Will Rock You’ on a teacup.
In the video, one of Queen Elizabeth II’s last appearances before her death that September, Paddington tenderly thanks the Queen for her 70 years of public service: “Thank you for everything.”
Following her death, Paddington plushies were left at public memorials in remembrance and quickly became a symbol of her life and reign. The BBC scene would later win the ‘Memorable Moment Award’ at the 2023 BAFTA Television Awards.
