The Earthshot Prize: the latest as Prince William makes big announcement

The Prince of Wales has shared the fifteen finalists for the 2024 Earthshot Prize awards. 

Earlier this week, Prince William shared the finalists for this year’s awards. The five award categories are Protect and Restore Nature, Clean Our Air, Revive Our Oceans, Build a Waste Free World, and Fix Our Climate with three finalists in each area. 

D.light, a company based in sub-Saharan Africa, is working to make clean and affordable power accessible for rural communities across Kenya, Nigeria, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and India. 

The Altyn Dala Conservation Initiative in Kazakhstan began with the goal of saving Saiga Antelope, a critically endangered animal. Their goal has now expanded to working to protect and restore the Golden Steppe. 

Equatic has produced carbon dioxide removal technology that works with the climate to remove carbon dioxide from our oceans on a broader scale than has ever been seen before. 

The inaugural Earthshot Prizes were awarded in 2021 at the Alexandra Palace in London. The 2024 award ceremony will be held on 6 November in Cape Town, South Africa.
