Pete Wicks has been flooded with support after his heartbreaking whisper to Jowita Przystal on BBC Strictly Come Dancing this weekend. On Saturday night, The Only Way Is Essex star performed as Freddie Mercury as part of Icons Week.

As Jowita and Pete hugged at the end of their performance, Pete could be heard whispering a heartbreaking apology to the dancer, who won the BBC show two years ago alongside Hamza Yassin. He could be heard saying: "I'm sorry, darling. I'm sorry.

"I'm so so sorry." A fan wrote on Twitter/X: "Pretty sure he's getting teary-eyed. You can usually see it once he looks back up." A second asked: "Is the J in Jowita pronounced or not? Tess was doing it both as a J and as a Y."

Head judge Shirley Ballas said: "You embraced the character of Freddie Mercury so, so well. I'm not going to overjudge this and I'll tell you why. You made quite a lot of mistakes, so it wouldn't be fair to, we all know you made mistakes we could see them.

"But what I was impressed with was how you picked it up. You carried on like a trooper, you did your lifts and thought I'm just going to get on with it and do the job." Pete was rock bottom of the scoreboard by some distance but the TOWIE alumnus has been saved by the public vote.

He was bottom of the pile by massive seven-point margin - the biggest gap of the series so far. Another wrote: "Maybe being a soap star helps (or maybe it's because soap actors will often have some dance experience, in stage school if nothing else) but I don't think there's any great history of reality TV celebs doing well on Strictly, is there? I think it's far more likely Pete got a massive sympathy vote due to being so gutted after the dance, than that there's a huge army of TOWIE fans voting for him."

Another wrote: "Jojo does a terrific job with the bacofoil, and I loved Vito and Wynne in the Clauditorium. Sad to see Sam depart, but if Pete wasn't in the dance-off, I don't think there could have been another outcome."
