BBC Strictly Come Dancing's Wynne Evans' life off-screen including seven stone weight loss

by · Birmingham Live

Opera singer and Strictly Come Dancing contestant Wynne Evans has shared the details behind his impressive health transformation, which saw him score a notable 31 points with dance partner Katya Jones in the Halloween special. However, Wynne, aged 52, has also been at the centre of recent controversy due to a "wandering hand" incident during a dance, which he dismissed as a "silly joke" that was taken out of context.

Speaking to BBC Radio Wales, he expressed his distress: "I'm absolutely heartbroken by the things that have been written about me in the last day. It was a stupid joke that went wrong, okay? We thought it was funny. It wasn't funny."

Fans had noticed Wynne and Katya's reduced screen time last weekend, sparking rumours of discontent. Wynne addressed these concerns on BBC Radio Wales, explaining that a wardrobe malfunction was to blame: "There's all these conspiracy theories why I'm not in the 'Clauditorium'," referring to the area where host Claudia Winkleman chats with contestants post-performance.

He continued: "The reality was, I had to go and get my trousers redone because they were sticking to the sticky tape on the side. So I wasn't in the 'Clauditorium' for a little bit because I was being sewn into my costume downstairs."

The Go Compare advert hero Wynne Evans has undergone an incredible health transformation, shedding seven stone in recent years. In a candid reveal to Sorted Food's YouTube channel, he shared an embarrassing mishap that was a wake-up call for his lifestyle change.

"I think - this is so embarrassing, right, and I've never told anyone this - I went camping, and I sat on a chair, and it just smashed underneath me," Evans disclosed. "So, I thought I'd sit on that chair, and that smashed as well and I thought: 'This has to come to an end because I'm smashing chairs left right and centre'."

Wynne discussed his dietary changes on the podcast, noting, "A year ago, I was 23 stone," and detailing his subsequent loss of seven stone. His efforts have involved giving up high-calorie favourites such as bread, burgers and his beloved cheese.

"I've lost seven stone in the past year. So I had to kind of give up the bread and the burgers and the cheese. I love cheese. I could eat a cheese sandwich while I'm cooking."

he admitted. Besides adjusting his diet, he added, "I just started walking a lot, I cut out the cheese. Under 2,000 calories a day. Drinking a bit less, trying to get everything under control really."

In an interview with Wales Online, Wynne now humorously champions cauliflower, saying: "Because I've been on a diet and I've lost six stone, I always have cauliflower because, cauliflower mash, cauliflower rice, cauliflower and chips, cauliflower curry, everything cauliflower."
