BBC Breakfast fans were split on whether a segment was top-notch entertainment or just plain "moronic".

Presenters Charlie Stayt and Naga Munchetty were back on the iconic red sofa this morning, delivering the latest on the Gaza conflict and the new rule for UK banks to refund fraud victims starting Monday, October 7.

But it wasn't all grave news, as the duo also chatted about the forthcoming Conkers Championships set for this weekend.

In a light-hearted moment, they interviewed Chris Quigley, founder of the Peckham Conker Club, who brought along conkers so Charlie and Naga could demonstrate their prowess.

Charlie reminisced about playing in his youth, while Naga admitted she was a complete beginner, reports the Express.

Taking the first swing, Charlie received an instruction from Chris to "kiss" his conker before going for it, leading to Chris's exclamation: "Woah you went for that! " and when asked for a score, Chris enthusiastically responded: "I'd give that an 11!"

Naga called Charlie's attempt "aggressive" and playfully suggested his new moniker should be Charlie the Conqueror.

Then it was Naga's turn, with Charlie cautiously leaning away as she aimed for Chris' conker, remarking: "Never done it before in my life."

However, not all viewers were amused by the whimsical feature, with one critic posting on X: "Another no news day", another dismissing it as "dire TV".

A third viewer lamented: "All the s*** going on in the world and they're showing you how to play conkers".

One viewer remarked: "This conkers bit is moronic and another chimed in: "God help us".However, not all viewers were critical of the segment, with one fan declaring: "Your conker piece was the best telly in years!

""Best thing on TV this AM on @BBCBreakfast is watching Naga and Charlie playing conkers!", another agreed, suggesting: "Should be done every morning with all morning teams. "

A third viewer found humour in the situation, chuckling: "It was 'pretty normal sized nuts' and "'does size matter' that had me sniggering in a very childish way!"

BBC Breakfast is available to watch on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
