Coleen Rooney's ruthless reason for I'm A Celebrity stint is to 'wind up Vardy'
by Kelly Ashmore, https://www.facebook.com/theblackcountrylive/, Lucy Needham · Birmingham LiveThe real reason behind Coleen Rooney's decision to join I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! has been unveiled. The mum's inclusion in the line-up had left some fans puzzled when she was rumoured to be joining the stars heading to Australia this month.
Fans noted that Coleen hardly needs to boost her profile, having been in a turbulent relationship with one of England's biggest football stars since her teenage years. Multi-millionaires Coleen and husband Wayne are far from cash-strapped, with a hefty pay cheque unlikely to be what enticed Coleen.
She has also earned a substantial amount of money through various endorsements, book deals and a hugely successful Disney series revealing her Wagatha Christie battle. Not to mention the £1.8million in legal fees rival WAG Rebekah Vardy has been ordered to pay her following their 2022 court battle.
After being in the spotlight since the showdown, Coleen could be excused for wanting a quiet life rather than appearing on TV every single night in the demanding reality series. So why sign up for a three-week stint on one of TV's toughest shows?
Sources close to Coleen attribute her real motive to an insatiable ruthless streak. They claim Coleen couldn't resist the chance to annoy her biggest rival in front of an audience of millions.
Rebekah Vardy, who appeared on I'm A Celeb in 2017 and was the third contestant to be eliminated, found herself embroiled in a bullying row with presenter Iain Lee. The DJ lashed out at Jamie Vardy's wife for making him "f****** miserable and isolated" in the jungle, with Rebekah being one of the first to be voted out.
"I'm A Celebrity is a fantastic opportunity to wind Becky up," a source close to Coleen revealed. "She has got a mischievous side to her. While she has been dignified with how she dealt with being dragged through a court by Becky, it is bound to come up and Coleen has always been honest about the situation," they told the Mail.
ITV have yet to officially announce this year's line-up. However, insiders at the channel say they 'can't believe they have got Coleen' to sign on the dotted line.
Presenters Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly are also said to be thrilled at the casting and already plotting a series of stinging jokes for their scripts. Coleen will join her fellow cast members in landing at Brisbane airport from next weekend.
The line-up is also set to include McFly's Danny Jones, presenter GK Barry and as the Mirror revealed this week boxing legend Barry McGuigan. It's not yet known whether Wayne will be joining Coleen when she does eventually leave camp.
But following the public support after her Wagatha court takedown, it's unlikely Coleen will be short of fans when she makes it out.
