A spa near Birmingham has been named among the best in Britain. The Times named Hoar Cross Hall on its 50 of the UK's Best Spas for 2024 list, celebrating its traditional setting as well as its modern treatments.

Hoar Cross Hall is less than an hour away from Birmingham in Burton-upon-Trent, set within thousands of acres of countryside in Staffordshire. The resort boasts 'one of the largest state-of-the-art spas in Europe' and it offers overnight stays and dining on site too.

A full day at the spa is priced from £119 per person while overnight spa stays are priced from £199, based on two people sharing. The Times championed the green space surrounding Hoar Cross Hall as worthy of exploring.

In the listing, The Times wrote: "The rusty red gables and turret water towers of this sprawling Elizabethan-style mansion outside Burton-on-Trent suggest tradition, but this old girl's spa looks decidedly to the future.

"It was already home to one of Europe's largest subterranean spas and has now transformed its Italian garden into a vast terrace complete with those prerequisites of 21st-century wellness: ice plunges beside a log-fired sauna. The hall, designed by the architect Henry Clutton, who redeveloped Covent Garden, has 43 neatly clipped acres for a pre-prandial stroll, or crank up the calorie-burning and get in some five-star forest bathing by biking or hiking in the nearby National Forest."

Hoar Cross Hall recently overhauled its terrace. It boasts three spa pools that feature 'hydrotherapy technologies, massage jets, ample seating and a higher-than-average water temperature'. All three pools lie side-by-side, surrounded by lavender, and are 'designed to soothe muscle and joint pain, flush out toxins, reduce stress and stimulate lymphatic drainage'.

Fire pits and a juniper log sauna are also features of the new terrace, alongside cabanas, a 'relax room' and a bar and lounge inspired by the Meditteranean.

Another spa mentioned in The Times listing of the top 50 UK spas in Farncombe in Worcestershire. Situated just over an hour away from Birmingham, Farncombe was described as being good for visitors of all ages.

It said: "For multigenerational wellbeing that works for spa mavens, stressed-out executives, TikTok-dependent teenagers and grandparents who prefer a good walk to a massage, Farncombe's 500 acres of fields and forests tick plenty of boxes."
