BBC Doctors fans 'work out' how axed Birmingham soap ends after 24 years in gutting finale

Fans of the BBC soap Doctors have pieced together their theories on the show's finale, and it doesn't look promising.

The drama, centring around the lives of medical professionals at a bustling Midlands GP surgery, first hit our screens in 2000. For nearly a quarter of a century, it has been a mainstay for viewers and has garnered a loyal following.

However, last year brought the news that the BBC had decided to cancel the cherished series, with its concluding episode set to broadcast in December 2024. The decision was attributed to "increased expenses" by the network chiefs.

Just this month, the BBC disclosed the exact date for Doctors' final curtain call. Despite the fact that production wrapped up several months prior, audiences were under the impression that the show would continue until year's end. Yet, the ultimate farewell will be on Thursday, November 14, reports the Mirror.

It appears the conclusion of the soap might be quite sombre. As avid watchers will remember, recent episodes have seen the Mill Health Centre experience some significant alterations.

The arrival of Dr Graham Elton (portrayed by Alex Avery), a new character with a villainous streak, has caused quite a stir since his introduction as a potential partner for the Mill Health Centre earlier in the year. His presence has already led to upheaval, convincing receptionist Kirsty Millar (played by Kiruna Stamell) to seek employment elsewhere and clashing with the much-loved nurse Luca McIntyre (Ross McLaren).

Graham's derogatory comments about Luca, touching on his views on sexuality and gender, have sparked controversy. But the situation escalated last week when an incensed Luca took a swing at Graham.

Seizing the opportunity, Graham pressed his employer Zara Carmichael (played by Elisabeth Dermot Walsh) with an ultimatum dismiss Luca or risk him pulling out of a partnership, which could spell the end for The Mill.

As the soap "Doctors" approaches its final episode ever, fan predictions are rife with gloom. Many believe a tragic closure is on the horizon for Mill Health Centre.

Browsing through the BBC Doctors Facebook fan page reveals a range of theories. One user speculated: "I'm sure Graham be the catalyst that brings down The Mill and a way to end the programme."

Another fan posed: "What will be the final straw that closes the Mill? It could be Graham causing a collapse? " An additional comment read: "Will Graham's homophobia have the Mill closed down? Just a few weeks to go now."

A fourth fan remarked: "The Mill Health Centre is going to be shut down to finish the series once and for all. End of an era! " And another saddened fan expressed: "Would be sad if Doctors finished with that awful Graham winning and manipulating everybody. I'll be devastated. Get rid of him and finish on a high."
