An iconic burger is returning to McDonald's for the first time in almost a decade. The fast food giant said following petitions and pleas from fans, it had "very little choice" but to bring back the McRib.

The McRib will be back on the menu in a matter of days. UK customers will be able to add it to their order from October 16.

The burger, which combines a pork patty with tangy barbecue sauce, pickles and onions, will cost £4.49 on its own. Those wanting to try it as part of a medium extra value meal, will have to fork out £6.19, The Sun reports.

The McRib, which contains 509 calories, was first launched in the UK in 1981. However many were disappointed when it was abruptly removed in early 2015.

Thomas O’Neill, head of menu at McDonald’s UK, said: “We have heard our fans loud and clear – the fan petitions and pleas on social - and after almost a decade of anticipation, we are thrilled to bring back this iconic menu item. Knowing how well-loved the McRib is, we had very little choice - we had to make it happen."
