Strictly Come Dancing's Dr Punam Krishan has been inundated with "non-stop medical questions" from her fellow contestants throughout the current series.

The TV doctor, who had hoped to balance her regular job with rehearsals and performances on the BBC Latin and ballroom show, has found that her 'Strictly' co-stars are more than happy to have a physician around.

Chatting with OK! magazine, 'EastEnders' actor Jamie Borthwick, also vying for the glitterball trophy, remarked: "I’ll just take each day as it comes, get my sleep and food in.

"We’ve got a doctor here looking after us, so any problems, any fainting or anything..."

Dr Punam chimed in: "Yeah, I thought I was getting away from it, but literally, it’s been non-stop medical questions! " Despite the additional queries, Punam, who is still practising as a GP while competing, believes she's struck the "perfect balance of scrubs and sparkle".

Partnered with Gorka Marquez, Punam performed a Bollywood routine as their Couple's Choice, marking the first time such a dance has featured in the show’s 20-year history last Saturday, securing second place on the leaderboard.

On the programme, Punam shared: "I never saw Indian girls dancing on mainstream television, so to be doing an Indian dance on a platform like 'Strictly' now, it's huge. " She added, "I am such a proud Scottish Indian girl. In this couple's choice, I really just want to bring my culture and my heritage to the forefront."

'Strictly' judge Motsi Mabuse expressed her emotions: "That really moved me. I know so many people are watching you right now and feeling so proud to see this on 'Strictly Come Dancing'."

Meanwhile, Punam - who also serves as a TV medic on BBC One's 'Morning Live' - sought advice from fellow co-stars with 'Strictly' experience. She added: "I've got Gethin [Jones], I've got Sara Davies, Kimberley Walsh has done it."

She continued: "So, yeah, I have reached out to them. Dr Ranj [Singh] is another one. So it's been good. I've just been like, help! And the one piece of advice consistently has been just enjoy it. It’s over before you know it."
