Janet Street-Porter has given fans an update on her health from rehab as she recovers from hip surgery. The 77 year old presenter announced last week that she would be temporarily leaving Loose Women to undergo the operation.

She admitted she was very apprehensive about the surgery an was ‘shaking and shivering’. She told her fellow ITV hosts: "On Friday, I am heading off to have a hip replacement operation at last and I can’t think about anything else."

On Thursday, the journalist shared an update on her recovery journey. The star posted a photo of herself exercising as part of her rehabilitation on Instagram. Janet appeared in high spirits as she posed for the camera while resting on a set of parallel bars. She was accompanied by her nurse, Annie, and also had a panic button around her neck, which she humorously mentioned in her caption.

Janet wrote: 'Day 6 and I've joined the call button wearing community! Trying to obey Annie's orders and put feet in right order. Computer scrabble is easier...'.

This latest update follows Janet's hospital bed selfie. Donning a hospital gown and a breathing tube, Janet updated followers a few hours after her operation.

She captioned the post: 'Three hours after hip replacement-masses of strong pain relief resulted in huge smile of relief! Then the drugs wore off...but I'm walking with a trolley HOORAY XX'.

She had previously told Loose Women viewers she had delayed the surgery, saying: “I am vulnerable and you know what it’s my own fault because they told me in March to have it done but I delayed it but then at the weekend I have some vegetables delivered and even though I shouldn’t I was on all fours planting them.

“I woke up on Sunday morning and I couldn't move and now I’ve really messed up the other side of my back and I had to lie-down for two days. I realised that I let myself get too weak and I’ve never been like this in my life and it’s just so irritating.”

Janet joined the Loose Women team in 2012. However, she was unable to appear on the show for a time previously due to an outbreak of shingles.
