An ITV Coronation Street star has "abruptly" quit the cobbles after a decade appearing on the soap. The ITV soap's faithful fans and viewers are reacting with devastation at the news Dolly-Rose Campbell, who plays character Gemma Winter in Coronation Street, has departed.

Coronation Street favourite Gemma is taking a short break away from the cobbles. Taking to Twitter, now X, a fan said: "Can't blame her for needing a breather to find herself again." A second agreed and typed: "Hope she comes back soon."

A third noted: "Seems a bit sudden." As a fourth commented: "She is playing her character so well and going through hell." Gemma, who kept her criminal past a secret, continuously had her hands full in Weatherfield as she raised quadruplets Aled, Bryn, Carys and Llio with husband Chesney.

Gemma diagnosed with post-natal depressed following the birth of her four kids. She was recently left brokenhearted after the death of her twin brother, Paul Foreman. The character, who is played by Peter Ash, was diagnosed with motor neurone disease in September, 2023.

On Monday night's episode, Gemma's partner Chesney showed his support and put his wife's best interests first by encouraging her to go and leave him with the little ones. But her exit left fans devastated as they flocked to social media to share their upset.

Kirk, who covered Chesney for a shift at a kebab shop, has sparked further chaos for the family, who live in Weatherfield, after he managed to step in and work a shift for the dad-of-four - only to then serve a dodgy kebab to a health inspector.
