BBC Strictly Come Dancing fans all say the same thing about Punam Krishan and Gorka Marquez dance

It was the first Bollywood-inspired routine in the show's history

BBC Strictly Come Dancing fans have issued the same complaint after Dr Punam Krishan and Gorka Marquez' dance. The pair were behind a Strictly first when they took to the dance floor for Movie Week.

The show opened with a group number from the professional dancers who transformed into minions from the Despicable Me franchise. Kai Widdrington, who was left without a celebrity dance partner this year, appeared as the film's character Gru, donning a bald head and a prosthetic nose.

During week three of the BBC One dance contest, Punam and Gorka performed the first couple's choice of the 20th anniversary series. They danced to Bole Chudiyan from the hit Bollywood film Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham.

The pair came joint second scoring 33, causing a Ballas to exclaim "supercalifragilisticexpialidocious". She had dressed up as Mary Poppins for the show, Manchester Evening News reports.

Ahead of the performance, Dr Punam said she wanted to do a Bollywood dance to bring her 'culture and my heritage to the forefront'. Speaking during rehearsals, she said: "I never saw Indian girls dancing on mainstream television so to be doing now an Indian dance on a platform like Strictly is huge."

She told how she lost her grandad, who lived in India, during the Covid pandemic. She said: "He'll be watching and he'll be really proud, as will my mum.

"We didn't grow up with much, we didn't have a lot, but we got there." When asked by host Claudia Winkleman what it meant to her to perform a Bollywood routine, Dr Punam struggled to hold back tears.

She said: "It meant everything. I feel like I just went to four-year-old me that would have loved to see something like this when I was growing up, and I guess you just can't be what you can't see."

Strictly viewers rushed to social media to praise the routine - but had two complaints. Fans said the dance was not long enough because they wanted to see more.

They also said the couple was not scored high enough. One person said: "Far too short, I could’ve watched them dance for hours. Bollywood week should definitely be made a new category.

"Just imagine the dances, the music, the outfits! It would be amazing." Another said: "Two complaints…… undermarked and not long enough. Absolutely loved this!! I don’t think I even watched Gorka."

A third said: "Incredible, I think they have been undermarked every week. Dance of the night." Another fan commented: "One complaint, it was too short. It was amazing and I didn’t want it to end."

While one viewer said: "Punam and Gorka What a treat watching a new genre of dance, Punam danced her out, and she enjoyed her best dance, and I loved, more please #StrictlyComeDancing # Strictly."
