Strictly Come Dancing's welfare teams had to step in over concerns for Katya Jones and Wynne Evans after Saturday night's episode sparked rumours of tension between the duo. Despite a clip going viral showing Katya, 35, moving Wynne's hand from her stomach to her waist, she has firmly stated that her dance partner did not make her feel "uncomfortable or offended".

Another moment that caught viewers' attention was when Katya seemed to ignore Wynne, 52, and roll her eyes as he went for a high five, leading to widespread speculation on social media. Addressing the incidents, Katya clarified on Sunday: "I need to make something crystal clear.

"The hand incident that happened on Saturday night was a very silly inside joke between Wynne and I. So even the idea that it made me feel uncomfortable or offended in any way is complete nonsense. It's actually absurd.", reports the Mirror.

She urged fans to instead celebrate Wynne's progress: "So let's focus on how brilliantly Wynne is doing and what an amazing dancer he's becoming!" It has been confirmed by sources that the show's welfare team has checked on the pair and deemed no further action necessary.

The dancing partners also jointly apologised for the misunderstood high five incident, commenting: "We just wanted to say we were just messing around in the Clauditorium on Saturday night and just want to say sorry. It was a silly joke."

Wynne, known for his role in the Go Compare adverts, added: "We really are amazing friends. The high 5's is a running joke." Fellow dancer Kai Widdrington remarked: "Had the whole nation hook line and sinker."

An insider shared: "Wynne and Katya have confirmed that their interactions in the Clauditorium were silly jokes they had planned together and have apologised to anyone who may have misinterpreted them. They addressed them on Wynne's Instagram, where their apology can be found.

"Katya would like to clarify further that she was not offended by Wynne and was not made to feel uncomfortable in the least. The welfare team have checked in on the pair and there are no further actions planned."

This year saw the introduction of new welfare measures, including chaperones overseeing contestants and dancers during rehearsals. Following an investigation into last year's contestant Amanda Abbington's allegations against her former partner Giovanni Pernice, who has since departed from the show, the BBC implemented these new protocols.

Regarding Abbington's allegations, the BBC issued a statement saying: "We have assessed the complaints and we have upheld some, but not all, of the complaints made."

The broadcaster extended an apology to Amanda Abbington, expressing gratitude for her courage in speaking out: "We want to apologise to Amanda Abbington and to thank her for coming forward and taking part. We know this would not have been an easy thing to do."
