by · Birmingham Live

Strictly Come Dancing star Pete Wicks was almost in tears at the end of his latest routine as he apologised to partner Jowita Prystal for messing up. The former TOWIE star was up first on the live show for the first ever icons week, where the celebs paid tribute to their musical icons.

Pete performed dressed as Freddie Mercury and dances to Another One Bites the Dust. But at the end of the performance, he was emotional as he hugged partner Jowita in tight and whispered apologies in her ear.

She was heard telling him: "It's okay, it's okay, it's okay." Clearly disappointed with his performance, he told host Tess Daly 'the show must go on'.

Head judge Shirley Ballas told him: "What a way to open the show. You embraced your character...you made quite a lot of mistakes...we can see them but what U was impressed with was how you picked it up. You carried on like a trooper."

Anton Du Beke told the TV star 'the lifts were spectacular'. He added: "It had so much potential...you get away from your partner and the problems begin."

Craig Revel Horwood remarked: "What a terrible shame it all started going wrong...you went back instead of forward." He added that the routines "lacked rotation and fluidity" and said it was "a little bit stompy".

Motsi Mabuse addressed his partner Jowita for being "the bravest woman in Strictly ". Referring to their daring lift, she said: "In the middle of that I was like 'Oh god she's going to hit her head on the floor'."

Pete said dancing to Another One Bites the Dust might have been foreshadowing his end in the competition. He scored just 22 points out of 40 from the judges for the opening routine.

He received just four points from Craig, and six each from Motsi, Shirley and Anton.
