Ruth Jones spotted filming final Gavin and Stacey episode in tears, hinting at dramatic conclusion

Nessa, a character from Gavin and Stacey, appeared to be 'in tears' as actress Ruth Jones and her co-stars were seen filming the eagerly awaited Christmas special. This comes just months after it was announced that the beloved BBC show would be returning for its final episode.

Throughout the sitcom's run from 2007 to 2020, Ruth's iconic character Nessa had an on-again, off-again relationship with Smithy, played by James Corden. Nessa and Smithy even welcomed their son Neil while Nessa was dating Dave Coaches.

In the 2019 Christmas special, Nessa confessed her true feelings for Smithy and proposed to him. However, viewers were left in suspense when the credits rolled before Smithy could respond.

Five years later, speculation about the proposal's outcome has increased as Ruth, along with Gavin and Stacey stars Joanna Page, Julia Davis, Alison Steadman, and Melanie Walters, were spotted filming together. The group was rumoured to be shooting Nessa's hen party as they were seen looking glamorous and ready for a night out.

During filming, heavy rain started, but the group continued the scene under a screen. For the occasion, Ruth was seen wearing a burgundy leather jacket over a black top with fishnet detailing, reports OK!.

Joanna was spotted in a pink and white floral dress, complemented by a coral-coloured denim jacket, while Jullia opted for a black cardigan and added a touch of flair with a leopard print scarf.

James Corden, known for his role as Smithy, has been dropping hints about the forthcoming episode. The Late Late Show host shared a sneak peek from behind the scenes, revealing Smithy's work van, adorned with an advert that read: "Smithy's: if your husband won't do it I will... Tilin, roofin, plasterin, and feng shui. Call me on 07700978978."

Alongside the photo, the actor penned: "Day 1. Here we go x."

Earlier this year, James was the one to announce the show's return, sharing a picture of himself and Ruth holding up a script for the new series.

"Some news... It's official! ! ! We have finished writing the last ever episode of Gavin and Stacey. See you on Christmas Day, BBC One. Love Ruth and James," he announced.
